Signature Sleep has a few highly rated product lines in their arsenal, and Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam mattress is their representative for the memory foam category.

Just like the Zinus Memory Foam Green Tea mattress, this Signature Sleep model is one of the most affordable memory foam mattresses out there, so we’ll draw some comparison to Zinus within this review.

Even though Signature Sleep is not as established as Zinus as a company, can their memory foam mattress best their direct competitor in the cheap memory foam mattress category?

In this detailed Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam mattress review, we will put up as much information as possible in one place, and summarize what hundreds of other customers are saying about their purchases to help you make the best buying decision.

Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam Mattress Review

Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam mattress line-up comes with 4 different thickness levels, which is identical to the Zinus line-up:

Similar to the Zinus memory foam mattress, most users have purchased the 12 inches variant and reported higher satisfaction in terms of comfort and body support.

This can be partly attributed to the thicker top memory foam comfort layer, which protects the sleeper from sinking too deep and bottom out on the firm core layer.

The illustration below shows the 12″ variant, and we’ll provide a table below to show the inner layers and their thickness for other variants of the same mattress.

signature sleep memory foam layers

Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam consists of a memory foam and a HD base foam

  • Top Layer: 4″ of memory foam. This layer provides the body-contouring properties that many users like about memory foam mattresses.
     .
  • Bottom Layer: 8″ of high density base foam. This is the core support layer for the mattress, and it is there to keep the structural integrity of the mattress over a long period of time. It also provides support to the sleeper’s body throughout the night.
     .

These 2 layers are encased in a breathable knit fabric that is easy to clean. Just like the Zinus mattress cover, it features a smooth surface and offers breathability so heat doesn’t build up around the sleeper during the night.

The layers for Signature Sleep mattress vs Zinus mattress are compared below:

As you can see, the main difference between the Signature Sleep memory foam mattress and its direct competitor lies in the inclusion of a comfort layer, which is present in Zinus but absent in Signature sleep.

As a result, they exhibit different firmness levels. Zinus is softer and is rated as medium in terms of firmness, while the Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam mattress is rated as medium-firm.

Most users of the Signature Sleep mattress describes it as firm and slightly contours to the sleeper’s body. If you prefer a plushier and softer mattress, Zinus may be a better choice for you.

Both mattresses use foams with density of 3 lbs/ft in their construction, so its longevity and durability should be similar.

3lbs/ft is considered to be on the lower end of memory foam density, but it is still decent for affordable mattresses such as the Signature Sleep Memoir series.

More expensive mattresses often have higher density of 4lbs or above. You can get a good gauge for a mattress’ density based on its weight vs size alone.

Even with the low density, users of the Signature Sleep memory foam mattress has reported high satisfaction in the quality and comfort of the mattress, as it doesn’t exhibit too much “sinking” when sleeping in it.

As with other memory foam mattresses, this model still contours to the sleeper’s body, but it hugs the sleeper ever so slightly instead of feeling like you are sinking into a cloud.

Signature Sleep compresses and roll up their mattresses before shipping out, so it will arrive at your house in a compact box.

You are advised to let the mattress expand for at least 24 to 48 hours after unpacking. Make sure it expands to its full thickness before using it for best experience.

Certification of Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam Mattress

The high density foams used in the mattress are Certi-Pur certified, meaning that they are made without ozone-depleting chemicals and are regulated by Consumer Product Safety Commissions Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million).

Being Certi-Pur certified also means that the mattress does not contain PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead and heavy metals, as well as formaldehyde and forbidden phthalates.

This certification is becoming more important and shaping up to be a gold standard (along with other certifications) in the mattress industry for health considerations.

According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website, VOC can cause health effects such as ENT irritation, headache and nausea, damage to liver, kidney and central nervous system, and it is even suspected to cause cancer in humans.

All memory foam mattresses recommended in this website are Certi-Pur US certified.

What Do People Say About Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam Mattress?

There are quite a bit of variations between individuals in terms of preference for sleeping mattress – whether it’s firm, hard or soft, so we choose to look at hundreds of reviews for each product to capture the overall sentiment from the customers.

Overall, the Signature Sleep mattress has managed a decent rating out of more than 6,200 customer reviews at the time of writing. 69% of customers have rated it a 5-stars mattress, 15% awarded 4-stars and the rest have rated it 3-stars or below.

Compared to the other dozens of choices out there, it has hold up decently despite having one of the most number of reviews. In comparison, the Zinus memory foam mattress has garnered 75% 5-stars reviews out of more than 6,700 customers, which is an even more impressive feat.

Does this mean that the Signature Sleep mattress is an inferior product? Not necessarily. Some of the most important considerations when making a memory foam mattress purchase include the price, density as well as mattress firmness.

In the price and density department, both Signature Sleep and Zinus mattresses are comparable. Both offer an extremely competitive price range of ~$200 and a 3 lbs/ft density. What differentiate them is the level of firmness.

As stated above, the Signature Sleep mattress is geared towards sleepers who prefer firmer mattress with little body-contouring.

On the other hand, Zinus memory foam mattress will exhibit more sinking and better contouring, but this also means that its motion transfer reduction is less than stellar.

Most consumers agree that the Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam mattress is very good at isolating movements and reducing motion transfer.

If you have a sleeping partner that toss and turn a lot, or a pet that jumps in and out of bed often, this mattress will keep the movement minimal and keep you sound asleep.

Users are also satisfied with the body comfort and support provided by the mattress.

It is ideal for sleepers who need extra support on pressure points such as the neck and the back, as mattresses that are too soft tend to provide little support and can potentially result in neck and back pains.

In terms of heat dissipation, customers have reported no excessive heat build-up throughout the night.

While memory foam mattresses will build up a little bit of heat regardless (compared to other material such as latex), the Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam mattress is efficient at channeling the heat away, partly thanks to its limited body-contouring and breathable cover.

Should you Buy Signature Sleep Memoir Memory Foam Mattress?

We recommend this mattress if you are working with a tight budget, as this is one of the most affordable and good memory foam mattresses you can buy at the moment.

While the foam density is on the lower side at 3lbs/ft, most users have reported satisfactory durability as the mattress is able to hold up its structural integrity over a period of 5 years or more.

The mattress is on a firmer side with limited body contouring, so check your own preference before making a purchase. If you like a softer and plushier mattress, you should get Zinus memory foam mattress instead.

However, due to its firm nature, it provides excellent body support and will relieve pressure points for sleepers who get neck or back pain after a night’s sleep.

Motion transfer reduction is good on this mattress, as movements on one side of the bed will be isolated and minimize disturbance to the sleeper on the other side.

While the foam density is on the lower side at only 3 lbs/ft, you will have to fork out a lot more money if you want to buy a denser memory foam mattress. Price correlates strongly to density of such mattresses.

The only gripe we have with the mattress is the short warranty period at only 1 year. Most of its competitors offer far longer warranty period.

With that said, this Signature Sleep memory foam mattress is one of the most popular, affordable and highly-rated models right now, so it’s more than likely that you will be satisfied with your purchase.
